Navigating uncertainty with the government shutdown

Hello everyone. With the federal government now in shutdown, organizations could face uncertainty around operations, funding, and workforce impacts. We’d love to hear how your organization is navigating this moment. What concerns or questions related to the government shutdown are top of mind for your company?

I want to share helpful TriNet knowledge article to support with this topic: Government Shutdowns - HR Compliance Considerations and Best Practices

I don’t know if this is relevant to anyone else, but we have a grant with the federal Housing and Urban Development Department. On a call yesterday, they told us that continuing to pay grantee invoices for expenses incurred is an essential function and will not be paused during the shutdown.

Thank you! This is a great resource.

Hopefully it will not have any impact on our firm - but I appreciate the Trinet partnership to help/guide us through if necessary.

not yet and hopefully we wont be

We are a trade association, so anytime the government shuts down, our ability to connect with lawmakers on behalf of our membership is severely limited. And as a nonprofit, we rely on membership dues for payroll and operations. That being said, I am grateful to Rob and the TriNet team, as we have looked at the knowledge article listed above for part of our planning and preparation process.

I am unable to use E-Verify. I am not sure how to navigate this.

Unfortunately, we’ve already been impacted by not only the shut down but previously the federal government reduction in spending for training programs and in support of USAID. Both the federal government and nonprofit agencies who received USAID funding have been client groups we’ve served in the past. Recognizing this, we started earlier this year looking for ways to reduce nonessential costs and tap into other markets to generate revenue. As a team, we are all involved in identifying opportunities working collectively to help us navigate the challenging times.

We have not been impacted and hope not to be.

We are a research company and solely funded by government grants. We have 4 grants in process and do not expect to hear any news on them while the government is shutdown. This could mean layoffs and a slowdown of our research, impacting our ability to sell our technology and court venture capital investment.

We have not been effective by any of the shut down yet but we are vigilantly working on making sure everything is covered if we do.

We have not been affected yet and hope that we won’t be. I noticed that E-Verify is unavailable, but we haven’t had any new hires, so I’m wondering how this will affect us if we do hire new employees in the near future.

One of our after school programs is funded by a federal grant, but we expect to continue running and not have this school year be affected. Though, we are waiting on reimbursement funds that are typically paid in October, with no sign of when they’ll be paid.

We are hoping that it has very little effect on our company. We appreciate Trinet walking us through the process.

Thankfully it’s not affected my company, but I know people have been personally affected.

We are closely monitoring the news and are having to make sure to fully document dates of requests to ensure we cover our end of any contract requirements.

I came here to see how everyone else is doing. I’m unsure how to navigate the e-verify, and I have a new hire starting soon. If you have any tips, please reply and let me know. :pray:t2:

Not yet, but may depend on how long this goes on.

We haven’t really been affected, but as a nonprofit arts organization, we had applied to both IMLS and NEA for grants. It ultimately became clear that there was no way we would get either of those grants. So, there are definitely big projects that will be put on hold because we lack the funding to complete them.

We aren’t able to use e-verify. When this has happened in the past, we just kept a list of all new hires and verified them retroactively without any issue.
